VSA (Video Shopping Ads)
TikTok's native ad format that links product listings from your TikTok Shop directly into a shoppable video ad, letting viewers tap to buy without leaving the feed.
VSA stands for Video Shopping Ads. It is TikTok’s native ad format built specifically for e-commerce. Unlike a standard TikTok ad that sends people to a landing page, a VSA links directly to a product listing inside your TikTok Shop. The viewer can add to cart and check out without leaving TikTok.
The Simple Version
A VSA is a video ad with a shopping button built in. You create the video, connect it to a product in your TikTok Shop, and TikTok places it in people’s feeds. When someone taps the product link, they land on your product listing inside TikTok, not an outside website. The friction to buy is minimal because nothing requires leaving the app.
Why VSA Outperforms Regular Ads for Products
Standard brand awareness ads are designed to make people remember you. VSA is designed to make people buy something right now. The entire funnel (ad, product page, checkout) happens inside TikTok’s interface. That reduced friction is measurable. CVR (conversion rate) on VSA campaigns typically outperforms ads that route through external websites, partly because TikTok’s checkout flow is fast and TikTok users are increasingly comfortable buying in-app.
Campaign Setup
When building a VSA campaign, you set your objective to Product Sales (not traffic or awareness), connect your TikTok Shop catalog, and select which products to feature. TikTok’s ad algorithm then places your ad in front of users it predicts are likely to purchase. Starting with broad targeting, letting the algorithm find your buyers, usually outperforms over-specified interest targeting in early campaigns.
Key metrics to watch: CTR tells you if the video is stopping the scroll. CVR tells you if the product page is converting. ROAS tells you if the campaign is profitable.
